Does IE5 matter anymore?
Tonight was the first time I've looked at browser stats in a while. It seems that IE 5 has gone to 4% market share. That was the number Netscape 4 hit when I said, "I'm done".
Are you guys ditching IE5 support?

i don't think anyone uses IE5 anymore. even die hard win98 users have upgraded their browsers.
Hi Nathan!
I'm betting those 4% are gigantic corporations with IT departments that don't want to upgrade the desktops. (How would you like to coordinate the upgrading of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of users with dozens of desktop apps!)
I'm pretty sure most ISP's installation disks come with the latest version of IE. At least that's how it used to be....
Saying goodbye to IE5 would be a great thing. It's like getting rid of 2 browsers at the same time. 5.5 renders CSS differently than 5.0.
No more box model hack for CSS-P!
It took 4 years to get rid of IE5. Do you think we can expect another 4 years of IE6? (That would mean 8 years of IE6 support as a development platform. Damn.)
There's not a convincing reason to support those gigantic corporations with a public inTERnet site. If you were developing an inTRAnet website for said company - whole other ball game. But then again, if a company did spend the time to hire someone to create an inTRAnet site, then they would also probably upgrade their employee's browsers.
HelpSpot doesn't support IE6 in the back end. Most of it would actually work, but I didn't even go through and test to see if all the CSS worked and there's some JS I'm pretty sure won't work.
I did check IE5, 5.5 on the portal aspects just to make sure they worked "enough".
If your product isn't going to be out for another 6 months I wouldn't worry about it.
I don't think the 4% is bigco's. Bigco's have too much on the line, most of them force specific builds on all their computers. I'm betting that 4% is grandma.
I don't know Ian. I currently work for a company with about 7,000 employees (is that "Mediumco" ;) )and we just recently (like this year) moved from NT4 & Netscape 4 to XP and IE6!
We, in the IT web development department, had to deal with Netscape 4 compatibility in 2005! When I first started there 3 years ago I was shocked we still had to support it. And that was 3 years ago!
